To the Editor:
If the flags in Tarboro are not flying at half-staff, then they should be as a true patriot, hero, and Christian has died.
Joel Bourne’s obituary, in your paper, only mentioned a few of his many acts of kindness for the public good.
Two of the bloodiest battles of World War II were ones that Joe fought in. When asked to tell of those times, he would say that he only unloaded cargo on the beaches. Edith would be quick to reply, “That’s not what your Marine buddies say when we go to those reunions!”
What’s right about America has suffered a loss.
