The results of the election for mayor in Princeville shows how uninformed citizens can be duped into voting for the most unqualified candidate.
The new elected person was in office when town funds was misappropriated by the town manager. the misdeed happened on her watch, but she was re-elected. If she wasn't diligent when she was mayor before, why would the voters believe she will be now?
All the Princeville progress after the 1999 hurricane came under Mayor Deliah Perkins. I met Mrs. Perkins a few days after the flood, I invited her to visit Atlanta to seek funds for the city, Mrs, Perkins spoke with pastors, business leaders, radio stations, etc, her passion for "my little town" as she called Princeville showed a person that cared about her hometown. Mrs. Perkins connected with people that had the desire to rebuild Princeville as a livable town.
When Dr. Joseph Lowery, recipient of President Obama's Medal of Freedom award visited Princeville he spoke about misuse of the vote. He happens to be my boss.
We pray that Princeville prospers and get its house in order.
I will bring seniors to the college roundup in Tarboro in March.
