TARBORO —
Classic Diner located at 105 E. Pitt Street in Tarboro has dedicated three years to serving children and their families with their annual "Breakfast with Santa" holiday event. This year, a special young lady will be granted the opportunity to have a private breakfast with Santa Claus, and according to Manager, Mandy Ray, everyone is in for a tasty treat.
"It's a lot of fun, and the children seem to really enjoy it," said Ray. "They come in and have Mickey Mouse pancakes, visit Santa, sit on his lap, and tell him what they want for Christmas. It's been a great turn out every year."
This Saturday, Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Classic Diner is expected to be a full house with happy customers waiting to have their turn with Old Saint Nick.
According to Ray, last year, "By 8 o'clock, people were lined up out the door and down the sidewalk. I can tell you that every seat in this place is packed from beginning to end."
Harper Doughtie is the special young lady who will have a private breakfast with Santa this Saturday. Doughtie, age five, has Leukemia which is a disease of the blood-forming organs. This 45 minute private session starting 45 minutes before the event is to grant Doughtie the pleasure or seeing Santa and also to isolate her from others due to the weakening of her immune system, according to Ray.
The meal that the children will be served for this occasion is $3.25. It consists of two Mickey Mouse pancakes, one patty sausage and a drink. While customers are eating, Santa Claus will walk around, talk to the children and pass out candy canes. Pictures with Santa will be provided for those who desire for only $5 each. To maintain organization during the event, each customer will be handed a number and will be served accordingly.
"The Breakfast with Santa is just appreciation for the support that we've had since we've opened here," said Ray. "We've had a lot of support here and this is our appreciation to the kids."
Ray's overall expectations for the 3rd annual "Breakfast with Santa" is highly positive.
She said, "We're hoping that it's a good turn out and that all of the kids have a great time. The parents seem to appreciate all that we do here."
