Juvenile Crime Prevention

The Edgecombe County Juvenile Prevention Council has announced the avaliability of $216, 301 in intervention and prevention funds for services to youths most at risk of court involvement. Funds require a local cash match or in-kind match of 10 percent. Agencies wishing to submit applications can contact Lesa Walton at 641-7827, Pam Whitley at 827-5058 or Pam Stokes at 355-9013.

Energy Class

A one-day class on Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings will meet on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Class meets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Instructor is Reid Thomas from N.C. State Historic Preservation Office. Cost is $65. Call 823-5166 ext. 241.

Ebonette Club

The Ebonette Club of Tarboro will meet at 4 p.m. at United Manor Court Office Complex.

Relay For Life

The Relay For Life team of Mildred Missionary Baptist Church will be having a Wii Bowling Tournament at the church from 6-10 p.m. The church is at 139 Ellis Road. Registration fee is a $5 donation to the American Cancer Society. For more information call 883-3482 or jwj3474@hotmail.com.

Flag Raising

There will be a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at the Tarboro Town Common honoring Louis A. Best Sr. The public is invited.

Welding Certification

An AWS Welding Certification class begins on Feb. 8 and ends May 5 on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Class meets 5:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost is $175, free for 65 or older. Instructor is Bobby Perkins. Must preregister to guarantee space in the class. Call 823-5166 ext. 265 or 220.

Tax Services

Free income tax services will be available every Tuesday from Jan. 26 to April 28 at the E.L. Roberson Center in Tarboro. Services will be provided from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NARFE Meeting

Museum Meeting

Art Display

There will be an African American Art Display Reception from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Pender Room of the Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Artists will be there to explain their art work and what inspired them. The event is and open to the public. Call 823-1141 for more information.

THS Class Reunion

Golden K Meeting

The Tarboro Golden K Kiwanis will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the E. L. Roberson Center in Tarboro. Guest speaker will be Ginny Mohrbutter, executive director of the United Way Tar River Region.

Cotton Update

The Edgecombe Extension Center will provide an update on cotton production practices, varieties and transgenic traits. The meeting will begin with a meal at noon at the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center. Call 641-7815 for reservations.

Bosom Buddies

The Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer support group will meet at 7 p.m. in the Pittman Room of Heritage Hospital. Call 823-8277, 641-6835 and 823-5546.

Video Lecture

The Edgecombe County Veterans Museum will have video night 7 p.m. The video lecture will be on the origins of WWII “Hitler’s Challenge to the International System, 1933-1936” and “A New Germany 1933-1939.” There is no charge for this event. The public is invited.

Valentine Fund Raiser

The local chapter of the G. W. Carver Alumni Association is sponsoring a Valentine Fund raiser at 4 p.m. at Pines Chapel Baptist Church in Pinetops. The Theme is "Singing Our Hearts Out For Christ." Event will feature the Pines Chapel Male Chorus, Committed For Christ Singers of Eastern Star Baptist Church and the Victory Tabernacle Male Chorus of Pinetops. A love offering will be taken. All proceeds go to the S.A. Gilliam Scholarship Fund.

Crafty Saturday

Crafty Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (floating) at 82 Wildwood Drive in Tarboro. You will learn tips and techniques on how to create various papercrafting projects including card making and scrapbooking. Bring adhesives, scissors and a project and a snack. RSVP to 641-0857.

Valentine's Concert

The Edgecombe Veterans Museum will celebrate Tarboro’s Birthday with a

Valentine's Concert by the Sounds of Gold at the McIntyre Auditorium on the

campus of the Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Blount-Bridges House, the Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce, Rusty’s Fine Gifts, the Edgecombe County Veterans Museum and at the door on day of concert.

Weeds and Peanuts

The Edgecombe Extension Center will host a resistant weed management update for cotton and grains from 10:30 a.m. until noon and a peanut production meeting from noon until 2:30 p.m. to provide the latest research on peanut production practices and disease management. The meeting will be at the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center. Call 641-7185 for reservations.

Relay for Life

A Relay For Life Team Captain's meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Edgecombe Community College. All new teams are welcomed. For more information call 823-2525.

SPCA Meeting

FEB. 16

Kiwanis Meeting

Rick Mann will present the program for the Tarboro Kiwanis Club at 6 p.m. in the Heritage Hospital Classroom. Mann will have a presentation on identity theft.

AARP Meeting

The AARP Chapte 3812 will meet at 1:30 p.m. at E. L. Roberson Center in Tarboro. New members are welcome. For additional information call 823-1274.

Pancake Supper

The Temperance Hall Ruritan Club will hold a Pancake and Sausage Supper from 5-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each.

Black History

A PowerPoint presentation “Outstanding Tarboro African American Personalities,” will be held from 6–8:30 p.m. in the Pender Room of the Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Presentation produced and directed by Tarboro Historian C. Rudolph Knight. Attendees are asked to bring past photographs of individuals, events and buildings to be scanned so that a digital copy can be archived in the Library’s Local History Collection. Beekeeper Meeting

The Coastal Plains Beekeepers will meet from 7-9 p.m. at the Edgecombe County Extension Center in the Food and Consumer Science Lab. Enter at the rear corner of the Edgecombe County Administration Building. Bring a covered dish for the meal at 7 p.m., followed by the evening presentation, "Getting your bees ready for Spring." Youth Dance

The TAG program in conjunction with the Tarboro Parks and Recreation Department and the Tarboro Police Department is sponsoring a 12 year old and under dance from 6-8:30 p.m. at the M.A. Ray Center. The dance is for ages 8-12. The D.J. for the night will be DJ Billy Bronco. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. For more information call the M. A. Timber Framing Class

A two-weekend course on Timber Framing will meet Feb. 20-21 AND Feb. 27-28 on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Class meets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Instructor is Kevin Wilson, owner of TimberFab in Tarboro. Fee is $120, required text is $30. Call 823-5166 ext. 241.

Muscadine Grapes Workshop

The Edgecombe County Cooperative Extension will host a Muscadine Grapes Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon for anyone interested in learning more about the culture and care of Muscadine grapes. Extension Associate Connie Fisk will give a presentation followed by a hands-on pruning demonstration. Cost is $2 per person. Garden Workshop

The Edgecombe County Cooperative Extension will host a Garden Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon for anyone interested in improving their garden harvest. Dr. Keith Baldwin, horticultural specialist for N.C. A&T; State, will discuss sequential planting and handling and storage of produce post harvest. Junior Miss

The Tarboro-Edgecombe's Junior Miss program will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Keihen Auditorium. Reserved seats are on sale now for $25 and can be purchased at Brewer's Jewelry. General admission tickets will go on sale Feb. 14th and can be purchased at Brewer's Jewelry, All About Flowers or any of the contestants.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Wish Granting Volunteers are needed for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. Wish Granters visit the family and help determine the wish of the child while explaining wish procedures and using their creative side to make the wish truly magical. The Family Caregivers Support Group meets once a month at 2 p.m. on second Tuesday in room 260 of the County Administration Building, 201 Saint Andrew St.

Angel Food

Conetoe Reunion

We are trying to locate all of the members of the 1971 Conetoe High School Junior class, who would have graduated from Conetoe in 1972 had the school not closed down. Hunting Club

The New Hope Still Hunting Club is accepting new members who can hunt freely on 2,500 acres of Edgecombe and Pitt County land. Yearly dues are $460, and there are seven different farms for in-season hunting, including deer, squirrel, turkey and even bear in Pitt County.
