Auditions

The Tar River Players announce auditions for "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling. Six women, various ages from 18 -75. Auditions will be held March 8-9 at 7 p.m. at McIntyre Auditorium of Edgecombe Community College. Auditioners will read from the script. Scripts will be provided. Relay for Life

The Edgecombe County Relay for Life will hold a soup and sandwich luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Friendship Hall of the First Baptist Church in Tarboro. Cost is $5 per person and includes soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage.

NARFE Meeting

The NARFE Chapter 0781 will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Gardner's restaurant in Rocky Mount. For more information call 442-2928.

Kiwanis Meeting

Baptist Youth Minister Brooks Wadsworth will present the program at the Tarboro Kiwanis Club meeting at 6 p.m. in the Heritage Hospital Classroom. Wadsworth will speak about his recent experiences in Haiti with a rescue team.

The Edgecombe Cooperative Extension will host the annual Forestry Banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center.

Golden K Meeting

The Tarboro Golden K Kiwanis will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the E.L. roberson Center in Tarboro. Guest Speaker will be David Emmerling, executive of the Pamlico Tar River Foundation.

Historic Building Analysis

A class on Historic Building Analysis begins on March 10 and ends May 5 on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Class meets Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. Instructor is Larry Waldrop. Fee is $120. For more information call 823-5166 ext. 241.

Video Night

The Edgecombe County Veterans Museum will have video night at 7 p.m. Chris Larson of Rocky Mount will give a first-hand account of his family’s experiences before and after the surrender of the Philippine Islands during World War II. He and his family were in a Japanese prisoner of war camp for four years. There is no charge. Non-members are welcome.

Historic Window Repair

A two-weekend course on Historic Window Repair meets on March 13-14 and March 20-21 on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Class meets Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Instructor is David Hoggard. Fee is $120.

Crafty Saturday

Crafty Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (floating) at 82 Wildwood Drive in Tarboro. Tips and techniques on how to create various papercrafting projects like card-making, scrapbooking and other hand-made crafts. Please bring adhesives and scissors (and a project and snack). Wish Granting Volunteers are needed for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. Wish Granters visit the family and help determine the wish of the child while explaining wish procedures and using their creative side to make the wish truly magical. The New Hope Still Hunting Club is accepting new members who can hunt freely on 2,500 acres of Edgecombe and Pitt County land. Yearly dues are $460, and there are seven different farms for in-season hunting, including deer, squirrel, turkey and even bear in Pitt County.
