Alan Stephenson, Dean of Arts and Sciences at Edgecombe Community College, attended the eighth annual World View Global Education Leadership Program from June 17-22.
Stephenson was among 48 participants who came to the UNC-Chapel Hill campus for a week-long program on global issues and trends.
Stephenson returned with an increased knowledge of issues such as the global economy, population dynamics, and the war on terrorism.
"This program is essential in developing leaders for global education in school districts and community colleges,” said World View director Robert Phay. “Which is the next big challenge for schools and colleges in the Carolinas."
World View, which completes its ninth year as a UNC-Chapel Hill program, helps educators better prepare their students for the small and interconnected world in which they live.
It does so by producing symposiums, seminars, residential leadership programs, workshops, and study abroad trips.
Stephenson joins a growing number of World View program graduates who will now take on the responsibility of increasing international perspectives for the students at their schools.
World View's Symposium 2007, titled "Best Practices in Global Education from Around the United States," will be held October 24-25 for K-12 educators and November 14-15 for Community College educators on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.
