A resolution was adopted by the Blount-Bridgers
House Foundation board of directors at its meeting held
April 21, 2011.
A Resolution of Appreciation for the life and contributions
to Edgecombe County of:
Earl Lynn Roberson
June 6, 1935-April 7, 2011
Whereas, Earl Lynn Roberson displayed an unchanging
devotion to the area which nurtured him, and its people,
expressing that devotion by countless acts of generosity
for the cultural enhancement of Edgecombe
County, including Tarboro; and,
Whereas, in his career as an educator – teacher, school
principal, community college administrator – Earl Lynn
Roberson guided countless young people and adults into
wider areas of knowledge, greatly improving their life
opportunities; and,
Whereas, Earl Lynn Roberson was a faithful member
of the Conetoe United Methodist Church, serving in varied
positions of leadership, as well as expressing his
Christian commitment in many community organizations
and spheres of interest; and,
Whereas, the Blount-Bridgers House benefited significantly,
in its restoration and in acquisition of items for its
collection, through the time, energy and resources given
by Earl Lynn Roberson; now, therefore,
Be it Resolved by the Blount-Bridgers House
Foundation board of directors:
That we hereby express deep gratitude for the life of
Earl Lynn Roberson, for his many acts of service and
devotion to Edgecombe County and its people, through
education, historic preservation, and cultural enrichment,
which shall form a lasting memorial to his name.
Adopted by the Blount-Bridgers House Foundation
board, April 21, 2011.
A copy of this resolution shall be preserved in the
minutes of the Foundation's board of directors; and
copies presented to the family.

Justin Howard Kirkland, son of Thurman and Jennie Kirkland of Tarboro, NC, received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on May 12, 2012.

Brown named Golden Living employee of the year
Phyllis Brown, RN, director of resident assessment, at Golden Living Center of Tarboro, has been selected as Employee of the Year.
Brown has been a part of the Tarboro Golden Living Center for 15
years and is responsible for resident assessments, care plans, family meetings
and assists in discharge planning. She was selected as Employee of the
Year based on her contribution to exceptional resident care. -
Edgecombe County’s Gamma Lambda Chapter
Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG) recently held its Spring Banquet. DKG is an international society that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Scion car raffle to raise money to fight cancer
Greenville Toyota Scion has donated a 2012 Scion XB for a raffle to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life community events in Northeastern North Carolina. Tickets are $5 each and the drawing will be held at noon on July 13 at Greenville Toyota Scion.

Keihin-CST awards $21k in scholarships to county seniors
Elizabeth Sharpe of SouthWest Edgecombe High School was chosen as the grand winner of a $4,500 academic scholarship from Keihin-CST. A total of $21,000 in scholarships was awarded Edgecombe County seniors by Keihin.

SPRING GARDEN SYMPOSIUM
The Gray Clark gardens are on the list to be visited, weather permitting, during today’s 4th annual Blount-Bridgers House Spring Garden Symposium. During the symposium, which will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church, garden vendors will line St. David Street and will be open to the public. The street will be closed to vehicles during shopping hours, allowing for a leisurely shopping stroll.
