• EDGECOMBE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, on being recommended for accreditation by a review team from AdvancED.
• NORTH EAST CAROLINA PREP SCHOOL, on a successful registration effort that resulted in a need to hold a lottery for admission for the first classes, which are scheduled to begin in August.
• HARVEY WIGGINS, on being named volunteer of the Year at Golden Living Center. Mr. Wiggins has volunteered at the facility for more than 40 years, teaching Sunday School classes for residents.
• SADIE OWENS, 6, for coming up with an idea as to how to raise money to benefit Relay for Life. Little Sadie has raised more than $200 that will be added to the Stocks Elementary totals.
• EDGECOMBE COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE VOLUNTEERS, for all of the work and preparation that has gone into the 2012 Relay, scheduled to get under way today at 6 p.m.
