ROCKY MOUNT —
The Tarboro Woman’s Club recently presented DeJshia Glass, with a check for $1,000 as the winner of the Sallie Southall-Cotten Scholarship Award. DeJshia attends Tarboro High School, is in the AF-ROTC program as Flight Commander for the Aerospace Science 1 class, and also as Color Guard Commander. She has been awarded the highest national award the Air Force Association offers. She wishes to attend pre-med at UNC-Chapel Hill or Duke University and plans to enter the US Air Force after graduation to study to become a pediatrician.
She attended the GFWC-NC District 8 meeting in Oriental last Saturday to compete with other recipients in the district. The winner of the District meeting will continue to compete at the state level which awards $6,000 per year for four years as long as the requirements are met. The Sallie Southall-Cotten Scholarship is awarded every year to an outstanding high school senior who has applied to a North Carolina college or university.
The Tarboro Woman’s Club sponsors the Sallie Southall-Cotton Scholarship each year, supporting both young men and women from Edgecombe County with their education.
