TARBORO —
Margaret Jones’s bucket list just got a little shorter.
“It has been a dream of mine to open a florist shop for a long time,” said Jones, owner of Margaret’s Flowers & Gifts at 312 N. Main St. in Tarboro. “It was on my ‘bucket list.’
“I was always a little nervous about doing it, but then I figured if I didn’t try it, how would I ever know?”
On Aug. 10, Jones followed up on her long-time dream and opened her shop on Main Street, next door to the City Barbershop.
“I have always loved working with flowers,” said Jones, who has lived in Tarboro since 1953. “I am not in business for money, I am doing this for the pure joy of it.”
Jones has been working with florists for more than 10 years, at the former Creech The Florist in Tarboro and Arlene’s in Rocky Mount.
“I worked around them so much, I wanted to have a place of my own,” said Jones.
Margaret’s Flowers & Gifts offers a full-range of floral services, both fresh-cut and silk flowers, for just about any occasion.
“I can do arrangements and bouquets for weddings, funerals, bridal showers, baby showers, gifts for teachers and cemetery vases and home arrangements,” said Jones. “Just about anything you can think of.”
Jones also makes unique arrangements like a birthday cake, which is made entirely out of flowers, and her “Candy Bloom” bouquet, which Jones said is a popular gift for teachers.
“I like to make things that are different and unique,” said Jones. “These make a really neat gift.”
Jones also offers delivery services to just about anywhere in the Edgecombe County area.
“I’ll deliver just about anywhere,” said Jones. “And I deliver free to funeral homes, nursing homes and hospitals.”
Jones will be holding a Grand Opening from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, where Jones ill serve refreshments and guests can register for a free Fall Arrangement.
Margaret’s Flowers & Gifts is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Jones can be reached at 641-0291.
