Inie Ribustello second runner-up

Inez "Inie" Ribustello of Tarboro's On the Square restaurant was second runner-up in the recent Best Sommelier in America contest sponsored by The American Sommelier Assoc-iation in New York City.

She was the only female among 21 participants.

In the first round to determine the four top candidates, she was chosen number two.

The winner was Michael Englemann from San Fransisco’s Gary Danko Restaurant, a Mobil Travel Guide Five Star Restaurant. The first runner-up was Fernando Beteta, MS from NoMi Restaurant in Chicago. Hristo Zizovski At Jean George Restaurant in New York City was fourth.

"It was a great experience," she said. "Very fun; very cool."

Ribustello, 33, and her husband Stephen own and operate On the Square at 115 Saint James St. in Tarboro and the 4th Street Wine Shop & Bar in Greenville. Both are advanced sommeliers, the world's only advanced sommelier couple. They were formerly the Wine Director and Sommelier at Windows on the World at the World Trade Center.
