WE ARE OPEN

Tarboro Hotel to change franchise

Although the sign no longer says Holiday Inn Express, the hotel at 102 Market Center Drive in Tarboro is still open for business.

And it looks better than ever.

“We have done a series of upgrades throughout the hotel,” said Owner Fayez Iskander.

Iskander, who is the original owner of the hotel, which opened in 1997, said the upgrades are part of his contract with Best Western Hotels, the world’s largest hotel chain.

Iskander said that his franchise with Holiday Inn was expiring due to Holiday Inn’s desicion to terminate all franchise locations under 85 rooms.

The Tarboro location has 62 rooms.

The hotel is owned and operated by Greenpoint International Inc.

“We are working with Best Western to open a franchise here,” said Iskander. “The upgrades are part of their Property Improvement Plan.

“We want to let our customers know that we are still open and are improving our anemities.”

Iskander said that each of the hotel’s 62 rooms have new furniture and improved amenities like 32-inch flat screen televisions, microwaves and micro fridges.

“There is new furniture in all of the rooms,” he said. “And new carpet in about 60 percent of the rooms.”

Iskander said that of all of the required changes listed by Best Western, only two remain before the franchise can become final.

“We are waiting on some merchandise from China to be shipped and installed,” said Iskander. “Then everything will be ready.”

Iskander said that the work should be completed in about two weeks.

In the meantime, Iskander said that they are operating under the name of the Tarboro Hotel.
