Margaret Arnold, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at the Golden Living Center in Tarboro, has a unique approach to her duties.
"You always put Christ first," said Arnold, who has worked at the center for a total of 28 years. "And I treat everyone of my patients like they are my mother and father."
Arnold was recently chosen by her coworkers as the CNA of the Year, during a luncheon given by Golden Living Center on June 18 to honor all of the CNAs at the center.
"Margaret is the example of what all CNAs should strive to be," said Golden Living Center's Executive Director Effie Webb. "She does her job so well because she believes in what she is doing."
"She helps so much with the residents, families of the residents and other staff members," added Director of Nursing Services Vicky Richardson. "She is a joy to work with."
A native of Edgecombe County, Arnold, 50, started working at Golden Living Center shortly after graduating the nursing assistant program at Edgecombe Community College.
“I love it here,” said Arnold. “I love the patients that I care for and the people that I work with.
“They are my family away from family.”
Webb said that the families of the residents tend to become very attached to the CNAs, because of the hands-on care that they provide the residents.
“They become like members of the family,” said Webb. “They really appreciate the care that Margaret and our other CNAs are giving to thier family member.
“She is just the perfect example of a perfect employee.”
Arnold said that she was touched to be chosen for the honor by her coworkers.
“It makes you feel great to be appreciated by the people you work with,” said Arnold. “And it makes it so much nicer to work where everyone gets along so well.”
