Students from The Tar River Home School Group, which is comprised of approximately 30 students from Edgecombe and Nash counties, met at The Waffle House on Western Boulevard in Tarboro on Thursday where they were given a tour by Store Manager Ryan Jackson. Jackson also instructed the students in the finer points of restaurant sanitation, safety and food preparation. Later, the students had an oppertunity to eat thier homeworkt. Denise Womack of Tarboro, one of the parents with the group, said the most common misconception associated with home schooling is that the children are always at home and miss out on socializing with other students. “We are always getting together with the group,” said Womack. “We get together at least once a week for field trips and we don’t have to bother with permission slips, we just get in the car and go.”
